Unemployment prevention allowance

What is it?

Unemployment prevention allowance is a sum of money paid out to an unemployed person with the right to the unemployment benefit who undertook employment or other paid work and did so independently or as a result of a work appointment issued by the district labour office.

Who can be granted an unemployment prevention allowance?

You can get this allowance if you meet one of the following requirements:

  • you are an unemployed person with the right to the benefit who undertook employment or other paid work and did so without any help of the district labour office.
  • you are an unemployed person with the right to the benefit who undertook part-time employment as a result of a work appointment issued by the district labour office and earn less than the minimum remuneration for work (see the current rates).

How long you can get an unemployment prevention allowance?

  • if you are an unemployed person with the right to the benefit who undertook employment or other paid work and did so without any help of the district labour office, you will be granted this allowance in the amount not exceeding 50% of the unemployment benefit referred to in Article 71 par.1  of the Act (see the current  rates) for the half of the time for which you would normally be paid out the unemployment benefit,
  • if you are an unemployed person with the right to the benefit who undertook part-time employment as a result of a work appointment issued by the district labour office and earn less than the minimum remuneration for work, you are paid the difference between your pay and the minimum remuneration for work but not more than 50% of the unemployment benefit referred to in Article 71 par.1 of the Act for the period for which you would normally be paid out the unemployment benefit.

What should you do if you want to be granted an unemployment prevention allowance?

If you want to be granted an unemployment prevention allowance, you should apply for this allowance to the district labour office competent for your registered address and submit a document that confirms that you undertook employment or other paid work.

Why is it worth applying for?

It is a financial support whose purpose is to motivate the unemployed to undertake and maintain employment.

Useful information

Remember that you will not be eligible for an unemployment prevention allowance if you:

  • undertake employment – upon the contract issued by the district governor – in a form of public works, intervention work or to a work-stand whose cost of furnishing and/or providing additional equipment was reimbursed by the district labour office,
  • undertake employment or other paid work for the employer for whom you worked directly before you registered in the district labour office,
  • undertake employment abroad for a foreign employer,
  • are on unpaid leave.

Remember!

An unemployment prevention allowance is not granted if you find a job while waiting for the right to the unemployment benefit.
